Nap IT has launched the Network Product Comparision (NPC) application to assist information technology professionals in comparing network equipment features and functionality from various companies. On equipment such as access points and switches, the enterprise network consulting firm shows information in the app, such as: port numbers, slots, power over Ethernet (POE), processing and memory.
According to Rodrigo Cassiano, the company account manager, the app came after some of his team needs, when faced with situations that needed to search for equivalent products to compose a solution, and, by questioning customers about the equipment use from other manufacturers – in which they did not know their existing characteristics.
In all, 600 products were entered into the NPC app (Android) for direct comparison with 300 devices. The database information was uploaded by Nap IT engineers, and the products are from Cisco and HP focusing on LANs for small and medium-sized enterprises.
“There are several improvements mapped to the application, one of them is about the validity period of each equipment manufacturing and support”, said Cassiano. “It will help managers and engineers in their technology park design and administration”.
With fortnightly updates, the application has the negative point of not showing the equipment values . Nap It manager explains that the values insertion would be complex because the equipment is valued in dollars and the negotiation can vary by the manufacturer strategy.
